- My weekly charge for General English is £300
This includes full board, 15 hours teaching per week [three hours per week day] and at least two accompanied outings.
I offer lots of flexibility, so that whole day excursions can be made, advantage can be taken of good weather, etc.
I can provide 20 hours teaching per week, as above, at a cost of £375.
However, I strongly recommend just the three hours per day.
In my experience, this is quite enough! Students are listening to or speaking English all day, which is exhausting. Some time must be set aside each day for homework and quiet study periods. Outings, which are educational in themselves, can take up to two or three hours and are best not rushed.
This is for beginners, intermediate or advanced students.
I ask students to take a simple test to establish levels and will discuss their particular requirements on their arrival, if not already known.
I will provide an overall outline of study for the length of their stay and a weekly programme [flexible and subject to change as lessons progress].
- English for Specific Purposes - i.e. for an exam, or for Business - would be more formal and more expensive. Price upon application.
- Books/materials/equipment
I use a lot of my own materials and also, for longer courses, usually work through the basics of a recognised coursebook [e.g. Headway].
I supply a lot of photocopies for students to keep and have plenty of reference and reading books available for their use.
By far the most important part of my teaching, however, is concentrated upon encouraging students to speak - to feel confident in using every day conversational vocabulary and phrases, rather than to learn grammar by rote, which can be done at home. Conversation and vocabulary will be general, but care will be taken to include subject matter relevant to the student’s work or interests.
Some grammar will of course be covered, and I also use audio and video tapes for listening skills, expect my students to do homework, keep a diary and to look at a newspaper every day [or at least try!].
